要点
  • Under the new rules, airlines will have to seat children under 14 next to their father, mother or accompanying adult free of charge. Currently, parents and children can pay up to £104 in total for seats next to each other on a return flight.
  • The changes will also cover name errors when booking a flight. Passengers are expected to be allowed to correct simple name mistakes free of charge, avoiding additional administrative fees. At present, such charges can be as high as £40 in some cases.
  • The UK government is also working with airlines and trade unions on a new system for sharing information about persistently disruptive passengers.
  • According to the government, airlines recorded more than 1,000 serious incidents involving unruly passengers in 2025. One of them involved an onboard fight that forced the aircraft to divert to another airport.
  • The changes are due to be delivered after the Civil Aviation Bill receives Royal Assent, with the industry involved to ensure swift and fair implementation. The government has not yet announced a specific date for the new rules to come into force, but says holidaymakers should be able to save money
