- Under a Cruise Hub Formation Agreement signed with Naha Port Authority in August 2026, the joint venture will develop and operate the terminal.
- The facility will provide passenger handling infrastructure and is intended to increase Naha Port’s capacity to accommodate cruise ships and growing passenger volumes. Naha’s location also allows it to serve cruise itineraries across East Asia throughout the year.
- The development follows Naha Port’s designation as an International Cruise Ship Hub Formation Port by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2019.
- A traditional Japanese groundbreaking ceremony was held at the terminal site, attended by Okinawa governor and Naha Port Authority president Genta Koja, representatives from the Cabinet Office of Japan, Naha Port Authority and Cruise Port Naha, as well as MSC Cruises and Royal Caribbean Group.
